Vision of the English Department (CKBCC, Jorhat)
The Department of English aims to promote and encourage the spirit of inquiry, to enhance the communication and soft skills of the stakeholders, especially the students, and to learn the values of life and living through the touchstones of literature studies.

Mission of the English Department (CKBCC, Jorhat)
* The primary mission of the Department of English is to impart fruitfully to its learners the four essential skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing.
* It has taken up the cudgels to impart basic knowledge of English Communication and English Speaking Skills to its learners, especially those who are from regional medium schools and rural areas, and to make the students realize the necessity of the English language- both spoken and written- in the majority of professional fields after graduation.
* Another important mission of the department is to assist in making the learners job-ready, by offering them training, workshops, and courses in Soft Skills, English Communication and Personality Development.
* Keeping in mind the multifariousness of Indian culture and identity, the English Department will make tireless efforts to form and transform the outlook of the students by organizing activities such as poetry-writing and poetry-reading sessions that will encompass the culture and ethos of the country.
* It intends to advance the understanding of the students through Written Self-Expression, Creative Writing processes and English Literature studies including Translation Studies.

Profile: The Department of English has been an integral part of Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah Commerce College, Jorhat, since 1965, the year the college was founded. For more than five decades, it has been playing a pivotal role in contributing to the academic and socio-cultural life of this part of Upper Assam. Mr. D.R. Gupta joined the college in 1966 as the first full- time teacher and founder Head of the Department. Both Mr. P.K. Phookan and Mr. N.N. Sarmah joined as permanent Lecturers in 1972. The former retired as Head, Department of English, Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah Commerce College, Jorhat, on August 31, 2004while the latter left the college on April 22, 2002 to join Mariani College, and later retired as its Principal.
Currently, the Department has its full sanctioned strength of 3 Teachers. Dr. Neeta Lagachu (Taye) joined the Department in March 29, 2001 in the post of Mr. D.R. Gupta and is appointed Head of the Department since 2009. Mrs. Rupasree Dutta joined the Department on April 22, 2008 in the post of Mr. N.N. Sarmah, and Dr. Kironmoy Chetia joined the Department on August 8, 2009 in the post of Mr. Protap Keshori Phookan.

Departmental Activities: The Department offers H.S. Courses and Six Semester Degree Course for B.Com students. Besides other college duties, the teachers of the department also contribute their services in taking BBA, IGNOU and Tutorial classes in the college premises. It further organizes workshops, seminars, special lectures, talks, etc. on literary as well as socially relevant issues. The Department has a Student Wall Magazine which is named ‘The Quill’. It also has a society called DELVESS (Department of English- Literature, Values, and English Studies Society) to promote literary activity as well as being a platform for students to tap and express their creativity.
